Two Sides of the Same Coin

If you've ever wondered what happens when two military nomads (they are not brats) grow up, surrender their lives to Jesus, and end up working together… well, Thrive!

Meet Terisa Clark and Denise Dietz. Sister-Friends. And yes, lovers of Jesus, who will tell you straight up: working together is heaven on earth.

Growing up in a military family meant these two didn't just move across town. They moved across oceans. New countries, new schools, new adventures. Oh, and there's a five-year age gap between them. Who's older? We'll let you guess.

Here's the thing about sibling relationships: sharing a childhood doesn't automatically mean you share a deep friendship. For Terisa and Denise, that shift happened when they both surrendered their lives to Jesus. Faith became the foundation that turned a sisterhood into a real, rooted friendship built on trust, honesty, and a whole lot of grace.

What Seemed Like Only a Dream

For years, they lived apart. Sometimes oceans away. But through all that distance, there was a quiet dream humming in the background: What if we could do this life closer together? What if we could work side by side?

In 2016 their paths converged at Trinity Church. Terisa served as CFO  navigating the complex financial landscape of a growing organization. Denise was on staff as a pastor, pouring into people and ministry on the front lines. They were sisters working under the same roof, different gifts serving the same mission.

After nearly 20 years at Trinity, in 2020, Terisa sensed a new calling, like a lighthouse beam cutting through fog: there were so many nonprofits that needed what she had. She took a courageous step, transitioning over the next few years out of her longtime role to offer her services on a consulting basis.

Then in 2024 came a car ride.

Terisa broke the ice. The opportunity was on the table. And for Denise? It was an easy yes. She became Terisa's first full-time hire.

Visionary Meets Integrator

At Thrive, we run on the EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) framework, and their roles couldn't be more perfectly cast. Terisa is the Visionary: big-picture thinking, future-casting, and dreaming up what's next. Denise is the Integrator: executing the plan, keeping the trains running, and making sure the vision actually becomes reality.

Could they crossover into each other's lanes? Sure. But they've learned that honoring each other's God-given design (and staying in their own lanes) is what keeps the organization healthy and growing. It's not restriction. It's wisdom.

Why This Matters to You

Terisa and Denise are unified in one vision, and that vision is YOU, and YOUR nonprofit. Your mission. Your ministry. Your growth. They share a passion for serving the nonprofits and organizations God brings to Thrive. They bring complementary strengths to the table to serve along with the entire Thrive team.

We thought you'd enjoy getting to know the sisters behind the story. Because at the end of the day, Thrive isn't just a business. It's a dream that God planted years ago and brought to life in the most beautiful way.

Two sides of the same coin. One shared calling.

One Voice Home - Creative Fundraising

A Story of Vision, Trust, and Creative Funding

Dacia Hamby was the featured guest at our May Master's Circle | Community Learning Lab, where she shared the powerful journey of One Voice Home, from startup to growth phase, and the creative funding strategies that fueled it.

Established in 2015 with a mission to serve survivors of sex trafficking, One Voice Home faced an early crossroads when a massive campus they'd purchased required $2 million in renovations. Dacia and the team brought a bold recommendation to the board: scale down to serve just four to five young women at a time so they could provide deep, trauma-informed care. In a move only God could orchestrate, an adjacent landowner approached unprompted and purchased the property for more than they'd paid, providing the operating funds to open their doors in 2020.

Now six years into programming, One Voice Home runs four programs (including a groundbreaking outpatient model for minors) on a budget approaching $1 million annually. Dacia shared what she's learned about sustainable fundraising: build personal relationships with donors, align their purpose with your mission, and go the extra mile with gratitude.

Her message to fellow nonprofit leaders: when you have a clear vision, get creative, stay small enough to steward well, and watch God expand it back to the original dream in His timing.

Starting June 22, 2026, new Nacha Operating Rules go into effect that impact how ACH payments are processed, and your nonprofit likely uses ACH more than you think (payroll, vendor payments, donor refunds, grant disbursements).

What's Changing?

This is Phase 2 of Nacha's Risk Management Rules, designed to combat the rising tide of credit-push fraud. The big shifts:

  • All organizations that originate ACH transactions (regardless of size) must now have risk-based fraud monitoring processes in place. Phase 1 only applied to large originators. Phase 2 applies to everyone, including small and mid-size nonprofits.
  • All Receiving Depository Financial Institutions (your bank) must monitor incoming ACH credits for suspicious activity.
  • Account validation is now expected before sending ACH credits, meaning your bank or payment processor may require additional verification steps for new payees.

Why This Matters for Nonprofits

If your organization sends money via ACH (payroll, bill pay, contractor payments, grant distributions), you are an "Originator" under these rules. That means you share responsibility for fraud prevention, not just your bank.

Action Items for Your Team

  1. Talk to your bank or payment processor now. Ask what changes they're implementing before June 22 and whether you need to take any action on your end.
  2. Review your payment approval processes. Do you have dual authorization for ACH payments? If not, now is the time.
  3. Verify payee information before sending new payments. Confirm account and routing numbers through a trusted channel (not email alone) before setting up new ACH recipients.
  4. Watch for new verification prompts. Your bank may add extra steps when you initiate payments. These aren't glitches, they're compliance.
  5. Document your processes. Having written procedures for how you handle ACH payments and fraud detection can protect your organization during audits.

The Bottom Line

These rules exist because ACH fraud is growing fast, and nonprofits aren't immune. The good news: most of this is about formalizing smart habits you may already have. The key is making sure nothing falls through the cracks before June 22.

Questions? Reach out to your Thrive team. We're happy to help you think through your payment processes and make sure you're covered.

We are proud to support Church on the Rock (COTR) and the upcoming Global Leadership Summit. If you are looking for fresh leadership insight, practical takeaways, and encouragement, we hope you will join us.  Thank you, COTR, for your partnership and for investing in leaders.

When we say "Make It Happen," we mean our clients experience real, measurable transformation, not just meetings, reports, or advice. Every engagement is anchored to outcomes that move the mission forward: a budget that actually gets followed, a board that finally understands the financials, a cash reserve that didn't exist six months ago, a decision made with confidence instead of anxiety.

We don't measure our value by how many hours we log or how busy we appear. We measure it by what changed for you. Did your leadership team gain clarity? Did your organization move from reactive to proactive? Did the financial fog lift so you could focus on ministry, students, or the people you serve?

For our YOU, this means:

  • You get a partner who owns the outcome, not just the task. We define what "done" looks like together, and we don't disappear into a black box. You know what's being delivered, when, and why it matters.
  • Results over activity. You'll never get a status update that says "we're working on it" without a clear picture of where things stand and what's next. If something is stuck, we say so and solve it.
  • Transformation, not maintenance. We're not here to keep your books in order and call it a day. We're here to help you build financial leadership that drives growth, sustainability, and mission impact. The churches, schools, and nonprofits we serve experience a shift: from surviving to thriving.

"Who is the faithful and wise steward?" — Matthew 24:45

Faithfulness isn't just showing up. It's delivering what was promised, stewarding your resources as if they belong to God (because they do), and ensuring that every dollar, decision, and deliverable serves your mission. That's what making it happen looks like to us! We ❤️ serving YOU!

One of the best parts of Thrive is the people, both the clients we serve and the team we get to serve alongside. Sara captured it so well in her words below, and we’re grateful for her and the way she shows up for our clients and our team. "Working as a fractional CFO for Thrive Nonprofit feels less like a contract and more like a calling. It is rare to find a leadership team that doesn't...

Strategic decisions rarely live in one lane. Staffing affects programming; programming affects capacity; capacity affects funding; and growth affects everything. That is why we walk alongside leaders as they evaluate options, pressure-test assumptions, and make decisions with clarity and confidence. Whether you are considering a key hire, expanding a program, launching a capital campaign, ...

You lead a nonprofit, you already know: your people are your greatest asset, and often your largest expense. In our recent Master’s Circle Community Learning Lab, we explored what it really means to “work on” your organization, not just “in” it. The big takeaway? One of the Three Positions to Master are Employee Costs. It's more than crunching numbers; it’s about building teams that multip...
